Bank chooses industry leader for sophisticated features, critical redundancy

Safe Systems, recent winner of the BankNews Innovative Solutions Award, and national leader in compliance-centric IT support and hosted services exclusively to financial institutions, today announced Peoples Bank & Trust, headquartered in Hazard, KY, has selected Safe Systems’ hosted email exchange solution, SafeSysMail, to replace the management of their in-house exchange system.

Peoples Bank & Trust operates a total of seven branches with 110 employees and approximately $275 million in assets, with just two IT staff for support. Recently, the bank experienced a catastrophic event with their in-house exchange server resulting in significant downtime. As an existing IT partner, Safe Systems was able to rebuild the exchange server within 48 hours while maintaining all inbound email for that time period — with minimal data loss. The support Safe Systems was able to provide throughout this event triggered the bank’s decision to move the entire system offsite through Safe Systems’ hosted email exchange solution, SafeSysMail.

“Like any institution, our bank is crippled without email. Safe Systems’ support through the rebuild caused us to look closely at their hosted email solution,” said Robert Porter, vice president and IT manager of Peoples Bank & Trust. “We knew we needed to take the exchange server offsite in order to increase the redundancy that is critical to our bank’s operation. In looking at different solutions to replace our in-house server, SafeSysMail proved to be the best fit, primarily because this solution is geared towards financial industry compliance – SafeSysMail is SOC 2 audited and adheres to GLBA and all FFIEC guidance, keeping our regulators happy.”

In addition to SafeSysMail, Peoples Bank & Trust also chose to move forward with Safe Systems’ legal archiving and enhanced email encryption to strengthen its compliance posture, security and overall back office efficiencies. Porter continued, “We anticipate saving upwards of $70,000 to $80,000 in hardware maintenance and upgrade costs over the next three years by moving the email exchange server to a hosted environment. We are happy to continue our partnership with Safe Systems and look forward to the added benefits from implementing SafeSysMail.”

Darren Bridges, president of Safe Systems added, “Because SafeSysMail is scalable to accommodate community financial institutions, it is an excellent alternative to managing, maintaining and upgrading an in-house exchange server. Peoples Bank & Trust will no longer need to worry about licensing, hardware issues, patching, upgrades, maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery. Every one of these components will be managed by a team of experts in a SOC 2 audited environment, housed in secure and fully redundant data centers. We are proud to provide the solutions Peoples Bank & Trust require to operate in a secure and compliant environment.”
